Private tutor in Englewood, FL

Education

I have B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Drexel University.

Experience

I have been a private tutor since 1979. Having logged thousands of hours in one-on-one tutoring over the past 34 years, I can assure any prospective student that you will not find a more genuine tutor. I am not a classroom teacher who happens to tutor on the side. As a matter of fact, I am not a teacher at all. I started out as a really good student and got my start showing other students how to excel. I would not settle for anything but top of the class. Some of my first tutoring gigs were paid with ice cream treats in my school cafeteria. "Sure I'll help you with that homework. Just go get me an orange creamsicle and we'll get you all straightened out". After my brain got flexing, I realized I could make real money at tutoring. So I set up shop going house to house on my bicycle for $3.50 per hour. Many things have changed since 1979. I am now much older, have tutored all five of my own kids, and I still approach every session with a desire to get my student smarter. I have B.S. (3.92) and M.S. (4.0) degrees in mechanical engineering and have scored perfect 800 SAT math scores several times. I tutor algebra, geometry, calculus, and physics, and I specialize in math SAT topics. There are dozens of important topics that need to be addressed before mastering the SAT. In Florida, a really good SAT score can be worth up to $16,000 in Bright Futures Scholarships. My lessons are fun, yet effective. I work out of an office in Englewood so I can maximize my time spent tutoring. On any given night, I could end up facing kids in Algebra, Geometry, Trig or Calculus--and any topics within those classes. So I have to have great recall of material and be ready to explain how to do just about anything that comes my way. Many tutors are not able to do that. I strictly focus on just a few topics. You might find tutors who claim to be experts in tons of topics, just use common sense. For example, what was your tutor's GPA in college? or SAT score? Final Point--Would you want your kid to learn how to play baseball from Average "utility man" Joe or Willie Mays? Ding-Ding. You get the point.

Hobbies

I love to learn, teach, and laugh. So I come to each lesson from that vantage point. Making lessons fun yet effective is my goal. I raised five kids of my own, so I am a tutor and a Dad. (three girls, two boys)
